Queer Dictionary

OBJECTIVE

The objective for this project was to create a visual guide highlighting terms that are frequently used within the LGBTQ+ community. This is meant to be a resource for everyone. It’s for the people who is new to this, who’s generation didn’t see this as the norm, those who are actively trying to make their friends or family feel safe, understood, and accepted, and for those who simply want to admire the art and beauty that hopefully is being portrayed in this visual guide.

VISION

When mapping out this project it was extremely important to me to try and make the designs for each term as unique and interesting as possible. I knew that I wanted the term to be bold and beautiful, while allowing the definition to be clean and understandable. Each term has a mix of typographic elements as well as illustrated elements.

APPROACH

When approaching this project, I felt that it was important to not use my own bias when choosing these terms, so I reached out to those around me by posting a questionnaire on my instagram story. I got responses from my friends within the LGBTQ+ community, who felt terms they identified as were not properly defined to those around them, as well as responses from people who did not identify as LGBTQ+, but as allies.
